Priyanka is ready

MISS World Fiji Pooja Priyanka departs the country today to represent Fiji at the 66th Miss World Pageant in Washington, in the US.
The Lautoka beauty's national costume to the pageant, which is unveiled in today's The Fiji Times, represents the country's multicultural diversity.
Designed by renowned local designer Hupfeld Hoerder, the outfit is made of masi, mother of pearls shells, black pears and magimagi.
Miss Fiji will wear the costume when she displays her talent, a dance inspired from the Bollywood movie - Taal.
According to Ms Priyanka, the national costume is a traditional inspired Ghagra Choli, mainly worn by Indian women.
"I can't wait to compete and represent Fiji on the largest stage of fashion and beauty.
"I am looking forward to meeting all the other contestants, showcasing what Fijian culture is all about and representing Fiji to the best of my abilities," she said.

The contestant receiving the most number of votes is declared the peoples champion during the live finals of the pageant in December.

Miss World Fiji among 129 contestants

Update: 11:46AM MISS World Fiji Pooja Priyanka will be competing against 129 other contestants from around the world.
During a press conference this morning, Miss World Fiji Pageant director Andhy Blake said Ms Priyanka will depart for Washington DC at 9pm tonight to compete at the Miss World pageant which begins this Saturday. "From the Pacific, we are excited to compete against Cook Islands. They've come back after a lapse of 12 years," Mr Blake said. "We've also got Miss Guam, Miss Australia and Miss New Zealand." This year, he said there would be no dances of the world so the national costume would be used in the talent category. "Pooja is doing a dance that was inspired by the movie Taal which stars Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai." Fiji ranks in blogs for world pageant

Update: 11:01AM FOR the first time, Fiji is being ranked in the blogs for the Miss World Pageant.
This was confirmed by Miss World Fiji Pageant director Andhy Blake during a press conference at the Fiji Broadcasting Cooperation in Suva this morning. "This is the first time that Fiji has ever ranked in the blogs for Miss World. We've never featured at all," Mr Blake said. "For five weeks in a row, Fiji was climbing up the ranks. When we first started, Fiji was ranked 14 and moved up to number 10 then we sat at number eight for a while. "The last one that came out two days ago was number six."
