Angola wins first Miss Africa pageant

Angolan beauty queen Neurite Mendes was crowned Miss Africa 2016, the
pageant's first titleholder. The event was held at Calabar International
Conference Centre by the Cross River State Government. The theme was
Green Economy: a tool for sustainable development.
Mendes left behind 30 other African beauty queens to win the very first edition of the Miss Africa pageant. It is reported that there were 365 million people watching it on television, making it a huge record.
Governor Ben Ayade, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, and chairman of Davandy Group, Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong, were in attendance. Nollywood stars, Kate Henshaw, Juliet Ibrahim and Uti Nwachukwu were the judges in the contest where they gave the title to Neurite Mendes.
Refilwe Mthimunye from South Africa was crowned 1st runner-up whereas Jencey Anwifoje of Cameroon was adjudged the second runner-up.
