Better late than never.
Miss Philippines Nichole Manalo was proclaimed third runner-up at the Miss Globe 2016 in Tirana, Albania, two days after she finished in the top 10 of the pageant’s finals.
Miss Globe organizers said the pageant host forgot to announce the names of of the two runners-up—Philippines and South Africa—during the finals last Friday night, November 25 (November 26 in the Philippines), in another contest error that shocked and surprised pageant fans around the world.
The pageant’s winners were as follows:
- Miss Globe 2016 – Dimple Patel (India)
- 1st Runner-up – Yenny Carillo (Colombia)
- 2nd Runner-up – Katrina Skurra (Albania)
- 3rd Runner-up – Nichole Manalo (Philippines)
- 4th Runner-up – Natasha Joubert (South Africa)
Joubert already left Albania when the special announcement was made through live Facebook streaming last Monday.
Last year, Miss Philippines Ann Colis won Miss Globe.
On December 20, 2015, the Miss Universe got into a snafu when host Steve Harvey mistakenly announced Colombia’s Ariadna Gutierrez as the winner; she was actually first runner-up, and the Philippines’ Pia Wurtzbach was officially declared winner.
Pageant dreams
Manalo, a registered nurse and younger sister of actress and former Miss Philippines Universe Bianca Manalo, received a crown and certificates from the pageant. She also won a special award, Dream Girl of the World, in the finals.
“It has always been my dream. But not only to become a beauty queen, but to stand on a world stage wherein I can give honor and pride to my country, the Philippines,” Manalo said on Instagram prior to her runner-up finish.
Manalo revealed that while her profession had to take a back seat in order to fulfill her pageant dreams, she said “there is this fire within me still wanting to save other people’s lives, but this time, as a beauty queen who has the heart to inspire.”
“Yes, I am a public servant. I am a nurse. And ever since, it’s my passion to give my time and service to others, especially to those who are sick. Because I know in that way… I am a blessing to other people. For me, that’s living life to the fullest,” Manalo said.
The new beauty queen thanked those who helped and believed in her.
