Cota, 20, won the 2017 title from among 19 Vermont contestants after taking part in the pageant on Nov. 19-20 at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe. Weekend pageant activities showcased the “accomplishments and dedication” of young women across the state, according to a press release from Pageant Associates.
“It was an amazing experience,” Cota said in a phone interview on Wednesday, Nov. 23. “It was great seeing all the love and support from friends and family.”
Cota also said she has worked really hard to get to this point. In the months leading up to the pageant, she has been working with Donate Life, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness for organ and tissue donation, and with Healthy Green Athlete, an athletic fitness and nutrition program, to help her prepare for the swimsuit category of the competition.
Cota will go on to represent the state of Vermont in the 2017 competition for the nationally televised Miss USA pageant. The date and location for that pageant has not yet been released, she said.
As winner of the Miss Vermont USA pageant, Cota will receive a $48,000, four-year scholarship to Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. She is attending college in Massachusetts now, but said that she looks forward to new opportunities.
“I want to see where this year takes us, and how much I can give back to the Vermont community, and at the national level,” she said.
As part of her prize package, she will also receive a photo shoot, online modeling portfolio, and representation by MMG, a model and talent company and celebrity management agency headquartered in New York City.
The title also comes with additional gifts and awards, including the opportunity to choose from several boutiques for her Miss USA competition evening gown and cocktail dress or the equivalent value in a gift certificate; fitness and nutrition training throughout her reign; photo shoots from several photography studios; and prizes including round-trip airfare to the national pageant, luggage, jewelry and accessories.
Both the Miss Vermont USA and Miss Vermont Teen USA pageants took place over the weekend of Nov. 21-22. Contestants were judged in three equal categories: a personal interview, a swimsuit category for Miss Vermont and an activewear category for Miss Teen Vermont, and and evening gown category.
Titleholders for both pageants will travel throughout Vermont making appearances and acting as ambassadors of the state at a variety of charitable events and social functions.
“As a resident of Vermont, I am incredibly honored to represent the pride and glory of our wonderful state as Miss Vermont USA 2017,” Cota said in a press release from PA. “Through my participation in the pageants, I am overjoyed at the chance to showcase everything that living in our beautiful state means to me, and I pledge to continue to make Vermont proud.”
