Bicol, Cebu, Davao, and Vigan are among destinations in itinerary of Miss Universe 2016 candidates

From photo shoots locations to beaches that the candidates will surely be enjoying, some of the key destinations  Miss Universe 2016 candidates candidates will be visiting was recently announced by Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo.
The international beauty pageant will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30 and is considered as an opportunity for the Philippines to attract more tourism packages.
“The ancillary events will be held in Bicol, Cebu, Davao, and Vigan. The rest will only be for photo shoots like Baguio, Palawan, Siargao, Batangas, Tacloban, Iloilo,” the tourism secretary said in a press conference held at Davao City recently.
“They will see the beautiful beaches, tourist spots. They will enjoy the Philippines. We’ll be bringing them around Davao..They are going to have a Mindanao fabric fashion show, and then, of course, they will be going to some tourist spots in Davao. Definite yan,” she added.
They key locations the candidates will be visiting in Davao include Eden Nature Park and Resort, Malagos Garden Resort, and the Pearl Farm Beach Resort.
For the Cebu event, the candidates will be featuring their beach wear; while in Vigan, the terno.
On preparations for the big event, Teo said they are meeting with the military and the private sector.
“Remember, the Miss Earth pageant was held here, and it was okay. I think we’re prepared for Miss Universe just as we were prepared with Miss Earth,” she said.
As a host country, DOT also expects to have an increase in the number of tourist arrivals because of the event.
“As early as now, there are many asking for the tour package to the Philippines. I think millions. Remeber the candidates are coming here, and they’re bringing 30, 20, and how many are they?” she shared.
For those watching the pageant, DOT Undersecretary Kat De Castro noted that the audience need to be at the venue two hours before the show starts, which is expected to start at 8 a.m.
De Castro assured the public that government agencies such as the Department of Transport and the Metro Manila Development Authority will be doing their part so that the public will not be inconvenienced by traffic on the day of the final show.
“One of the orders of President Duterte is to make sure that when we do the final show in Manila, hindi mata-traffic ang mga tao. You have to understand, Miss Universe is happening January 30, on a Monday morning. Ayaw ni Presidente na maipit yung mga tao sa rush hour,” she said.
