THE 2016 Miss Pacific Islands Pageant officially
opened over the weekend with a special church service for the eight
Pacific Islands representative.
Miss Cook Islands Pageant Association is now
focusing on the annual competition in Apia, Samoa where Maine Tapairu -
Tepaeru Helen Toka will represent the nation.
Toka has a number of support and encouragement from families and friends in the Cook Islands and most importantly, Aitutaki.
Miss Cook Islands Pageant Association president
Clee Marsters says the people of Aitutaki have funded the bulk of
Tepaeru’s quest for the Miss Pacific Islands 2016 title after a
successful “super-housie” held on the island last month, aided by
corporate sponsors.
Marsters said the Cook Islands had been a part
of the pageant since its inception in 1987 and in 2013 Miss Cook Islands
Teuira Napa won the event, held in the Solomon Islands.
The pageant week began with a church service and
throughout this week the contestants will be assessed for their
performance in various activities.
This is the 30th anniversary of the Miss Pacific
Islands contest and the pageant night/coronation will be held on Friday
December 2 in the Samoan capital, Apia.
This year’s Pageant Theme is “Celebrating our
History and Embracing our Future” and you can vote for your favourite
contestant on the Miss Pacific Islands Facebook page.
On Sunday night, the Miss Pacific Islands
contestants selected their order of appearance in the show. They chose
their pre-pageant interview topics last night at the official briefing
for Miss Pacific Islands Pageant 2016. Toka chose the topic,
“Celebrating our History and Embracing our Future.”
