Far North’s Madeline Cowe, Catriona Gray head to US for Miss World

WHEN 118 women from around the globe vie for the coveted title of Miss World, the Far North will be represented by not one but two local beauties.

Tully’s Madeline Cowe and Cairns-born Catriona Gray are both Washington-bound after winning the Australian and Philippines competitions, respectively.

Ms Cowe flies out today and will be joined by her family closer to the finals on December 18.

“There are a lot of components that they judge you on for Miss World... which I think is really great because they’re not just looking for the prettiest girl,” she said.

The law student has spent the past month in Melbourne, attending spring racing and charity events, and preparing for her shot at the crown.

“It would be so amazing (to win) because it is something I’ve been working towards for so long now,” she said.

“To win something so prestigious... it would really be a dream come true.”
