Several Miss Universe bets fall ill a week before coronation
MANILA -- A Miss Universe candidate fainted while another bet was ushered out before she passed out during a luncheon event with organizers and sponsors at the Makati Shangri-La hotel Friday noon.
Miss Universe Curacao Chanelle de Lau fainted on stage during photo opportunities with sponsors.
Miss Universe Angola Luisa Baptista was seen fanning herself with her hands while other candidates around her signaled for help before two security personnel came in to usher her off stage.
Sources who refused to be identified told ABS-CBN News that most of the candidates may have felt light-headed due to lack of sleep as they arrived back at the Conrad Hotel past midnight after sailing from Pico de Loro in Batangas for an ancillary event on Thursday.
Miss Universe Italy Sophia Sergio was also seen having a a fainting spell last week during the Governor's Ball, while Miss Universe British Virgin Islands Ericka Creque was ushered out in a wheel chair during a dinner event in Cebu.
Miss Universe Nicaragua Marina Jacoby also declined an interview with ABS-CBN News earlier this week as she was "not feeling well" and was "suffering from sore throat probably due to jetlag."
Miss Universe Poland Izabella Krzan also skipped events in Baguio and Davao as "she was not feeling well," organizers earlier said.
Officials from the Miss Universe Organization have yet to issue a statement about the issue.
