MANILA – Miss International 2016 Kylie Verzosa and Miss Grand International 2016 first runner-up Nicole Cordoves are all praises for fellow beauty queen Maxine Medina, who is set to represent the Philippines in the 65th Miss Universe pageant.
In separate interviews with ABS-CBN News on the sidelines of the Binibining Pilipinas press conference for Medina on Tuesday, Verzosa and Cordoves noted how Medina has greatly improved not just in terms of looks, but also in the way she talks and answers questions.
“She has improved so much, you can all see that. I know she knows it herself, that she has improved a lot,” noted Verzosa, who was crowned Miss International last October.
Verzosa went on to remind Medina to keep her eyes on the prize. “I don’t want her to see an option for failure… If she keeps her goal in mind, if her focus is just really there, then it’s a very possible win,” she said.
Cordoves, for her part, said she has seen how Medina has “transformed” both in terms of appearance and the way she projects herself to the crowd.
“In terms of beauty, makikita mo ‘yung transformation ng face niya… Actually nahirapan ‘yung mga makeup artists namin, mga trainers namin, kasi lahat ng makeup bagay kay Maxine. So hindi sila makapili ng one look for her because she really knows how to project,” said Cordoves, who competed in Miss Grand International last October.
“In terms of communication skills din po, she’s so much more confident this time,” she continued. “She speaks with a lot of conviction, she knows what she says. She can talk about politics as well. And at the same time, mato-touch ka sa mga sinasabi niya, like her heart is now out there.”
Cordoves stressed, however, that Medina is still “the same Maxine we have really grown to love.”
“Be really excited about it. Makikita niyo siya sa preliminary interviews, and on stage, Maxine is a monster. I’m excited for it,” she said.
Medina is eyeing a back-to-back win for the Philippines in the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held on January 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Her predecessor, Pia Wurtzbach, was crowned Miss Universe 2015.
