A former Miss USA and Miss Virginia USA beauty queen has been arrested in Sydney, Australia, for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend.
Brittany Nicole 'Nikki' Poteet, 26,  was charged on Wednesday with assault occasioning actual bodily harm stemming from a domestic incident that took place on December 16 involving 29-year-old Wade McKenzie.
McKenzie has taken out an apprehended violence order, which is similar to an order of protection in the US, against the former pageant queen.
She is expected to enter a plea before her next appearance.

Poteet, who moved to Australia in 2014, is no stranger to controversy and has had run-ins with the law in Virginia prior to her arrest in Sydney last month, reported News Corp.
The winner of Miss Virginia USA 2011 and Miss United States 2012 titles was arrested in 2013 and charged with misdemeanour assault and battery following a dispute with her ex-boyfriend, James McElroy.
The charges were dropped after McElroy said he could not recall the alleged altercation.
In 2011, Poteet was forced to publicly deny allegations that she hurled homophobic slurs at her gay roommate, his boyfriend and their friends.

The roommate, Derek Powell, said of Poteet in an interview with NBC12: 'She became extremely violent calling myself a f** and a c***. I just don't think that is a good role model for the Commonwealth of Virginia or young women or for anyone.'
Speaking to the publication Think Progress, Poteet insisted that she liked gay people and that her 'best friend in the world' was gay.

Poteet was later asked to hand back her crown after she posted a photograph on Facebook showing her wearing the tiara with the caption 'Miss Alcoholic USA'.
Director of the Miss United States Pageant Organisation Chris Wilbur told NBC12 at the time: '[Poteet's] character was not a good fit for the organisation so we gave her the option to change or leave. She chose to leave.'
Ms Poteet, who graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2010 with a Bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering and a Master's in nuclear engineering, currently works as a recruitment consultant in engineering and renewable energy for the Sydney-based HR firm Cadden Crowe.
Her LinkedIn profile indicates that Poteet also has a side job as an events coordinator for the Australian Solar Council.
Before relocating to Australia, Poteet worked for four years as a nuclear safety analysis engineer at Dominion Virginia Power.
