MANILA, Philippines — At least 20 Miss Universe candidates will participate in a terno fashion show in Vigan on Sunday, January 15, a day after they visit Boracay.
Then on Tuesday, January 17, they will go to a Cebu island resort before heading to Baguio the next day, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) announced in a report released last night.
The fashion show will begin at Calle Crisologo and end at Plaza Burgos in Vigan, a city north of Manila listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as the best preserved example of Spanish colonial towns in Asia.
The show, according to MUO, will showcase and highlight the “Abel Iloco” or “inabel”, the traditional woven fabric of the Ilocos region, where Vigan is. The designers from Ilocos who will dress up the candidates are supported by Fashion Designers Council of the Philippines, Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines, and Ilocos Sur Designers Guild.
Made famous by Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos when she was first lady, the terno is the Philippines’ national costume and is known for its prominent butterfly sleeves.
After Vigan, the candidates are scheduled to visit an island resort in Cebu.

Meanwhile, about 24 contestants will be deployed in the Panagbenga flower festival parade in Baguio City. The parade will begin at Upper Session Road and will continue down South Drive, ending at the Baguio Country Club.
