Iloilo officials 'confused' over Miss Universe itinerary cancellation
ILOILO CITY — Local government officials are confused over the alleged cancellation of Miss Universe events scheduled here, as they hadn't received word from the Department of Tourism (DOT).
"We are not yet certain if Miss Universe contestants will arrive, because it is not confirmed if (events here) are cancelled," said city administrator Hernando Galvez in the local language.
If they arrive, Galvez said, it will be an honor for the city.
He also said that an official notice would be very helpful, so that the local government can prepare.
The DOT's office in Region 6 didn't release an official statement to address the matter, as of this writing.
On Wednesday, Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo announced the official itinerary of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, and said that planned events in Albay and Iloilo were cancelled due to effects of typhoon Nina and scheduling conflicts, respectively.
