1. Miss USA Reveals Location of National Pageant

Miss USA finally announced its official location of the 2017 pageant. The national pageant will take place in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. The final night of competition will take place on May 14.

2. Miss World 2018 Location Announced

The Miss World Organization officially announced in early April that the Miss World 2018 pageant will be held in China. Although the date is not clear, contestants will arrive in China in November 2017 to compete for the Miss World 2018 title.

3. Former Miss Montana Faces Trouble Over Tweets

Miss Montana 2013, Sheridan Tihista, is learning the hard way to be more cautious about her social media posts. Sheridan received backlash after posting controversial tweets referring to parents of students (Sheridan is a teacher for students with disabilities) as “monsters” and posts alluding to her students’ need for attention.

4. Reality TV Star Announced as Director of Miss Florida USA

No stranger to pageants, Todd Chrisley announced his new position as the director of both Miss Florida USA and Miss Florida Teen USA on his Instagram account.
Chrisley is the star of the reality show, “Chrisley knows Best.” The show centers around his family and their daily life. Chrisley is also known as the father of Savannah Chrisley, Miss Tennessee Teen USA 2016. Savannah placed in the top 15 at Miss Teen USA. 5. Woman with Down Syndrome to Compete for Miss Minnesota USA

Mikayla Holmgren is making history as the first contestant with Down Syndrome to compete for Miss Minnesota USA. This comes as the organization itself is making strides to be more inclusive and diverse overall.

6. Former Miss USA’s Daughter to Compete at Miss USA 2017

Miss USA 1989 Gretchen Polhemus Jensen’s daughter Baylee Jensen is going to compete at Miss USA 2017.
Gretchen represented the state of Texas in 1989 and went on to win the national title of Miss USA 1989. Now her daughter has the chance to win the same crown in just a few weeks in Las Vegas. 7. Former Miss Universe Poses Nude for Charity

Alicia Machado is the former Miss Venezuela 1995 and went on to win Miss Universe 1996. Making headlines again, Machado agreed to pose nude for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign against wearing fur.

8. Former Miss World Ties the Knot

On April 8, 2017, Miss World 2001 Agbani Darego got married in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Agbani was able to compete at the worldwide level of competition twice, first at Miss Universe while representing Nigeria in 2001 and then again at Miss World later that year (taking home the crown).

9. Miss Cayman Islands Bullied for her Weight

Anika Conolly is the new 2017 Miss Cayman Islands and will go on to represent the islands at Miss Universe later this year.
Shortly after winning her title, Anika received backlash from critics, especially from online naysayers, stating that she is overweight and should have never won the crown.

10. Strict Height Requirements Set for Miss India

The Miss India Organization’s process for application and requirements was recently published, with a lot of talk centered on the height requirement.
Miss India hopefuls now have to reach at least 5’5″ in order to be eligible for the crown. Critics are saying this puts many Indian women at a disadvantage, as the average height of an Indian woman is 5’1″.
