Philippines Might Host This Year’s Miss Universe Pageant

Department of Tourism secretary, Wanda Teo revealed in an interview that the Miss Universe Organization has approached them and has once again asked the Philippines to host the Miss Universe 2017.
Teo confirmed the speculation and said that the Miss Universe organization has indeed offered them to host the pageant this year. According to her, the organizers were all happy about the outcome of the event that was held in the country last January. When it came to popularity, the Miss Universe 2016 actually surpassed one of the biggest sporting events worldwide, the Super Bowl which was always number one on the trending list.
“Pinagaaralan pa namin iyan pero that’s true, they are asking us to host it again this year,” Teo said in an interview. DOT is still thinking if they will accept the offer. Teo also said that the Miss Universe Organization told them that if they won’t accept the offer, they should at least have more control over the event.
Aside from the Philippines, Australia also has the possibility to hold the 2017 pageant. However, the final decision will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Miss Universe 2016 was held in the Philippines last January where Miss France-Universe 2015 Iris Mittenaere held the title, succeeding Pia Wurtzbach.
Rachel Peters, who won Bb. Pilipinas 2017, will represent the Philippines in this year’s Miss Universe.
