(Inside Manila) A back-to-back Miss Universe title is already off but the Philippines was offered the next best thing—a back-to-back hosting rights of the most prestigious pageant in the whole universe.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Wanda Teo confirmed that the country was once again offered to host the upcoming 2017 Miss Universe pageant.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Teo said the members of the Miss Universe Organization were satisfied with how they handled the recent pageant.

She added that the 2016 Miss Universe "overshadowed" the pre-events of the recent Super Bowl, a big sporting event in the US.

"Usually, number one iyan (Super Bowl) pero trending pa rin ang Miss Universe. So they really want it badly here in the Philippines," the DOT chief said.

DOT is currently considering to accept the offer. Teo said that should they agree, they would want to have more control over the event, and just like last year, will be looking for more sponsors to take on the expenses.

Philippines hosted the 2016 Miss Universe at the Mall of Asia Arena where 2015 title holder Pia Wurtzbach passed the crown to France's representative, Iris Mittenaere.

The country also hosted the pageant in 1974 and 1994 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), respectively.

The upcoming Miss Universe is scheduled in November with Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters as the country's representative.
