UB law student crowned Miss New York; will compete for Miss America

A University at Buffalo law student is the new Miss New York.
Gabrielle Walter, who competed in the pageant in Staten Island this weekend as Miss Western New York, was crowned Sunday. She will go on to compete in the Miss America pageant this September.
On her way to the title, Walter won the swimsuit competition, and she performed "All I Ask of You" from the musical "Phantom of the Opera."
All contestants in the Miss America program develop a platform that they promote in the community. Walter, a 2015 graduate of Canisius College, has a created a program called DreamUp New York, a goal-setting workshop for students.
