Other events of the weekend included a classic car and vintage trailer show, live performances by Matt Tolentino Band and Dandy Wellington & His Band, and a Sunday brunch hosted by Hotel Galvez.
The modern beauty pageant with a vintage twist is inspired by Galveston's "Pageant of Pulchritude" held in the 1920s and '30s, which was the predecessor of the Miss Universe Pageant. The Depression stopped the pageant continuing, but it was resurrected in 2009 to celebrate the history of the event and signaling the start of the summer season in the Galveston area (even if it's been hot all winter).
