MANILA – Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo announced on Monday the schedule of events for the next Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in the Philippines in 2017.
Speaking with reporters, Teo said the candidates will start arriving in the country on January 12, with the official pre-pageant activities kicking off on January 15.
“There will be a photo shoot on the 15th in Vigan,” she said, referring to the capital of Ilocos Sur. “On the 16th, there will be a Governors’ Ball at SMX. All the candidates will be there.”
The swimwear competition of Miss Universe will be held at Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark in Cebu on January 17.
The candidates will then be divided into groups and will be brought to different parts of the Philippines. “Some will be going to Baguio, some will be going to Albay, so medyo hati-hati na ‘yan,” Teo said.
Other locations that are included in the schedule of activities are Batangas and Iloilo.
By January 21, the Miss Universe candidates will converge in Manila for a fashion show at the SMX Convention Center, according to Teo. A “women empowerment night” will be held in the same venue on the next day.
They will then pay a courtesy call on President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang on January 23, followed by another event at Conrad Hotel.
The Miss Universe national costume competition will be held on January 24 at the World Trade Center. Teo said the pre-pageant evening gown contest will definitely be held in Manila, but they are still finalizing the event’s date and venue.
The coronation will take place at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on January 30, starting at 8 a.m.
