Update: 3:53PM NADI will be the next host of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, something local events organisers generally accepted and hoped for but which was finally confirmed last night.
MPIP Board member Ana Tuiketei confirmed this from Apia today and said it was an honour to be present at a formal reception when the announcement was made.
"On Wednesday Night, in front of all the member countries who are party to the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, it was formally announced that Fiji had won the bid to host the next pageant in Nadi in 2017," Ms Tuiketei said.
"As board member, I am very honoured to be here to assure the founders of the pageant that Fiji is serious about continuing the long tradition of showcasing the beautiful Pacific people and rich culture through the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant."
That high continued for the Fiji team today when Miss Fiji Anne Dunn completed her first round of competitions on a high note.
In a 5 minute presentation about the effect technology has had on the way Pacific people were able to "celebrate our history and embrace our culture" Ms Dunn showed more of the intellectual strength that won her the Miss Suva and Miss Fiji crowns.
"She did very well and we are confident in both her presentations and the way she answered the three questions from the judges. Competition at the MPIP level is very strong and some of the other Queens are performing very well too. We are optimistic and working very hard."
