Believe in yourself: Miss Solomon Islands
By Sarafina Sanerivi ,
Believe in yourself, push your limits, experience life and be happy.
That is the message from the 23-year-old Camilla Grossmith, the flag bearer for the Solomon Islands to the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.
The pageant will be staged at the Tuana’imato Gym 1 tomorrow night and Miss Solomon Islands is your contestant Number One.
As a very reserved person, Camilla said being a part of this pageant has helped her gain a lot of confidence.
Asked about how preparations have been coming along so far, Camilla said everything is going so well.
“I see that there is a big difference on how they run the pageant here compared to my country. But preparations have been good so far.
“I am really a reserved person and I find it hard to be around new people. But the girls made it easy for me and helped me fit in.”
However, she is honored to be here on behalf of her country.
“I am really honored and privileged. I am really happy to represent my country’s flag and represent my culture and people and I will do my best. I know this is a new environment for me.
“I have never been to a place where there a lot of different people around and this is definitely an eye-opener for me.”
For the Pre-pageant interview today, Camilla will be presenting on the topic of environment. And she believes the topic is just right for her as she is passionate about preserving our environment.
“One environmental issue I want to focus on is logging,” she said.
“It has a big effect on the people of my country. We have at least 70% that have been affected by logging. And they are really vital for our commercial uses, but they have been destroyed by users who come in and destroy it. So that’s one of the issues I want to focus on. I have a passion about preserving our environment so that’s why I want to focus on that because it’s an environmental issue.”
Camilla is currently studying at the University of the South Pacific back in the Solomon Islands and her main goal is to become a doctor.
Her hobbies include reading magazines and cooking.
Why should we vote for her as the new Miss Pacific Islands?
“I believe that as a young women, I can make a good influence and I can help our younger generation especially girls to stand up for what they believe in.
“I didn’t think I have the courage and confidence to be in front of people and to represent our whole country to this pageant. But I am here, and that is a message that I want to get across. If you believe in yourself that you can make a difference, stand up and do it. Don’t let anything hold you back.
“I believe that we are all talented. And if I do get the title, I will use to represent not only myself as a young passionate Pacific islander but also our region.
“I would also use it to influence our youth and help educate them to be familiar with the issues that are happening within our region and share ideas with them on how to eliminate these issues.
“I want our youth to know especially the young girls that in this life, you will always face challenges. But you need to believe in yourself, push your limits learn and experience new things and don’t forget to always be happy.”
