With a few months before the continental grand finale of Miss Africa pageant, beauty queen Peelo Mookodi has been dethroned as Miss Africa Botswana after allegedly breaching the contract by contesting in a modelling competition.

According to the Miss Africa rules and regulations , a titleholder is not allowed to participate in other pageants and competitions while they are still in office.
The 22-year-old was recently crowned Top Model Africa 1st princess. Mookodi has been dethroned with immediate effect and her crown given to the 1st princess, Modioki Gaborone.  In a twist of events, Mookodi vividly states that she did not break any contract.
In a legal document titled 'National titleholder obligations' passed to Showbiz by the Miss Africa team it says, “she will not enter any other pageant, competition or compete for any other titles during her reign (Term of Service)”. On the document, it shows that Mookodi signed this agreement to abide by its obligations.
Upon her competing at the recently held Top Model Africa, the Miss Africa team was quick to announce her dethronement through their Facebook page on a post that read, “with immediate effect, Miss Peelo Mookodi will step down from her position as Miss Africa Botswana 2015 queen due to her being recently crowned Top Model Africa 1st Princess contrary to our agreement that she cannot hold any other title other than the Miss Africa. We are pleased to welcome Miss Modioki Gaborone to take over this honourable position and continue this honourable duty as Miss Africa Botswana 2015-16 (sic)”.
Miss Africa founding chief executive officer Bruce Nkgakile stated that they have decided to release the model, “we have not fired her we merely released her”. He further stated that they are currently communicating with Mookodi and her family.
Mookodi’s dethroning means that she will not be receiving cash prize of P100,000 that she was supposed to receive at the end of her reign, but instead it will go to Gaborone, including the diamond-studded crown.
“We are an organisation that aims to promote and develop young people. We have no intentions of any punitive measures against her,” Nkgakile said.
Meanwhile, Mookodi was fuming stating that she only got to learn about her dethronement through the Facebook post that was uploaded on the Miss Africa page.
“I have not received any official communication stating that I am no longer Miss Africa. As far as I am concerned, I am still the reigning queen and I want my cash prize,” she said.
She stated that upon being crowned Miss Africa Botswana last year, she did not receive any official contract stating which roles she should play. Mookodi went on to defend herself stating that Top Model Africa was not a pageant, but a competition and she was following her modelling passion as she was tired of not doing anything.
“I am planning on taking legal action against Miss Africa to claim and fight for my prize and title. I have been quite for a long time,” said a disappointed Mookodi.
As Miss Africa Botswana she was supposed to represent the country at the first ever Miss Africa pageant, which will be held in the country in November.  In the meantime it has not been announced if Gaborone has been crowned or when she will be crowned or if Mookodi will still remain queen, with the necessary details to be revealed next week during a Miss Africa press conference.
Meanwhile Zambia recently crowned Louisa Chingangu as Miss Africa Zambia, and will contest at the Miss Africa pageant alongside other African beauties.
