MONROE – Miss Louisiana 2016, Justine Kerbegan her quest to bring home the Miss America crown when she departed for Atlantic City, New Jersey, Sunday morning from the Monroe Regional Airport.
The pageant to crown Miss America 2017 is Sept. 6-11. Preliminary competition is Sept. 6-8 and the live televised finals will air on ABC at 8 p.m. Central time Sept. 11
Ker's competition schedule is as follows: Sept. 6, morning: interview; Sept. 6, afternoon: swimsuit/evening wear; Sept. 7, night: talent; Sept. 8: on stage question; and Sept. 11: finals.
Ker is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in neuroscience and will begin pursuing her medical degree at Tulane University in New Orleans next year.
A native of Ruston, Ker travels the state sharing her platform “A Beautiful Mind: Promoting Positive Mental Health” by encouraging young people, as well as adults to live stress free lives.
She is a National Merit Scholar, has won awards for her work with STEM and was Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen 2011.  Ker is classically trained in piano, violin and dance.  She has traveled to nine countries.  Ker is the official hostess for the State of Louisiana and spokesperson for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Vantage Health Plan, Propane Dealers of Louisiana and Louisiana Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
