Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant may leave Hot Springs

Miss Arkansas 2016: Savvy Shields
It's been an institution for 58 years in Hot Springs, but the Miss Arkansas Scholarship Pageant is looking for a new home.
This, after Miss Arkansas 2016, Savvy Shields, was rushed to Washington D.C. for a mandatory meeting less than eight hours after being crowned.

The Hot Springs Convention Center tells KATV the problem is scheduling; pageant organizers wanted to move the pageant up to June, instead of July. While the convention center did offer some alternate dates, the event could end up elsewhere.
"We can't do it, we have groups under contracts and not only do they have contracts with us, but those groups have contracts with hotels for rooms, and with production companies for exhibitor services and all of that,” said Steve Arrison, Visit Hot Springs’ CEO. “It's a terrible thing you know, the Miss Arkansas pageant has been here for 58 years, we love it, but you know our level of business is such that we just don't have the space to move them."
While thousands head to the spa city for this 10-day event, the economic impact is expected to be minimal for the convention center since their space is free to the pageant.
"You know, you lose groups, you gain groups, our sales staff will just have to put in the extra effort and find something to take its place, can anything take Miss Arkansas' place? no, it's a one of a kind sort of point of pride so we're not very happy about it, but maybe things aren't over yet...maybe it will work out,” added Arrison.
