Metro much ado about Pia today

Filipinos proud and excited about Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach’s winning the much-coveted Miss Universe title will pour into the streets this afternoon as her grand homecoming parade rolls out in Manila, Makati, and Quezon Cities, likely sending traffic to a standstill.
Metro Manila traffic authorities have warned that heavy traffic is expected when the grand homecoming parade starts at 2 p.m.
This will be the first major public appearance of Wurtzbach since she arrived in the country last Saturday, after winning the most prestigious beauty pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada last December 20.
Wurtzbach has invited Filipinos to bring and wave their small Philippine flags along the parade route in Makati, Manila and Quezon City.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority advised motorists in its Twitter post to expect heavy traffic in Makati and Manila areas in the afternoon.
Organizers said that the parade will kick-off at the Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City at 2 p.m.
Starting at 3:30 p.m., Ayala Avenue northbound from Buendia to Edsa will be closed traffic.
The parade route from Sofitel Hotel: Left turn to Atang Dela Rama Street; right to Vicente Sotto Street; left to F. Ma. Guerrero Street; right to Bukaneg Street; left to Roxas Boulevard; right to Padre Burgos Street towards Taft Avenue; right to Finance Road; right turn to Taft Avenue; right turn to Quirino Avenue; left to Roxas Boulevard; left to Sen. From Makati, Wurtzbach will go to the Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City for the final part of the parade which will begin at 5 p.m.
Wurtzbach, 26, will also visit the Senate and Manila City Hall.
The Filipino beauty queen will ride an elegant float designed by award-winning production designer Fritz Silorio. It bears a white and royal blue theme with the replica of the Miss Universe crown in the front.
TAX EXEMPTION
The House of Representatives will likely pass a measure seeking to exempt Wurtzbach from paying tax on all her winnings and prizes, including her costly Czech Republic-made crown.
Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr. said they could pass House Bill 6367 mandating that all the winnings, prizes and perks given to 26-year -old Wurtzbach on her victory be exempt from any form of taxes and duties. The bill was filed by Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and his younger brother, ABANTE Mindanao partylist Rep. Maximo Rodriguez Jr. (With a report from Charissa M. Luci)
