Did the recent meeting of reigning Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach and President Benigno Aquino III at Malacañang get personal?
That was one of the questions asked by television host Boy Abunda to the 26-year-old Filipino beauty titleholder during her homecoming special at Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City on Thursday night.
“No, because my mom was sitting beside me,” Wurtzbach replied in jest, drawing cheers and laughter from the crowd.
Wurtzbach, who is currently in the country for a week-long series of activities, paid a courtesy call on Aquino on Thursday at the President’s Hall in the Malacañang compound. She was accompanied by her mother, Binibining Pilipinas chair Stella Marquez Araneta, and Miss Universe organization president Paula Shugart.
Aquino is rumored to have dated Wurtzbach, but the beauty queen has denied the romantic links.
Wurtzbach said the conversation during their one-hour meeting was “very light,” noting that she was “very natural” with the President.
“Kidding aside, I’m very natural with him and I just asked him what his plans were with his 50 plus days remaining before he finishes his term, and what he plans to do after, kung magpapahinga ba siya,” Wurtzbach said.
“Ganun lang naman, very light conversation. I mean, I wished him … I always thought he’s a good leader with good governance. I congratulated him for a successful term, and he congratulated me for winning Miss Universe,” she added.
Asked if she felt that Aquino showed interest in her at any point of the meeting, the beauty queen said: “No, I think he was very professional.”
Wurtzbach said she also asked the President’s reaction to her controversial answer on US military presence during the Miss Universe question and answer portion. Aquino also expressed his thoughts on the beauty queen’s interest in joining politics. RC
