Miss São Paulo 2017 turning out to be a controversial pageant
The finale of Miss São Paulo 2017 was held on 25th March 2017, wherein Karen Porfiro was crowned as the winner and will now represent São Paulo at Miss Brazil 2017. The finale of Miss São Paulo 2017 became an event to look out for various reasons; one of them being Bruna Zanardo. Bruna was Miss Earth Fire 2016, and the beauty queen had to leave her title as she aspired to try her luck at Miss Brazil 2017 pageant.
But the beauty queen had to lose the title to Karen and had to settle for the first runner-up position. Another reason that created quite a stir at the pageant was the Question and Answer round that turned out to be quite hypocrite. Women empowerment and gender equality are the two topics that are widely discussed and are gaining much popularity among the masses. One such question was asked during the Q&A of Miss São Paulo 2017, wherein in one of the contestants was asked about her views on re-evaluating beauty standards.
Responding to the question, Miss St Caetano do Sul, Stefany Salles replied that she is totally in favour of re-evaluating the standards and the criterions of beauty, and what one has inside is a lot more important than what the eyes sees. Contrary to her answer, the scenario in beauty pageants these days is totally opposite. When we think of a pageant perfect body and pageant perfect woman, we think of someone who is well toned and has a figure to kill. So, demanding re-evaluation of beauty standards and preaching something extremely opposite to it is nothing but hypocrisy.
The answer that Miss St Caetano do Sul gave was applauded among the audience, but at the same time it also raised the question the beauty standards followed by beauty pageants. What do you think..??
