Alyssa London aims to be first Alaskan to win Miss USA crown
In February, Alyssa London became the first Alaska Native woman of Tlingit heritage to win the Miss Alaska USA crown. In May, London says she plans to win the Miss USA competition and bring the crown to Alaska for the first time.
London has been all around the country preparing for the competition. She said reading to kids at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, visiting Alaska’s senators in Washington, D.C. and attending Alaska’s legislative session in Juneau have been important steps in reaching her goal.
London said 60 percent of a contestant’s Miss USA score is based on the interview. She says that’s about being able to tell her story and refine how she presents the values that are important to her.
Looking forward to the competition, London is excited about her evening gown, because it was a collaboration between designer Joey Galon and Tlingit artist Preston Singletary. When she walks on stage at the national event, she says she’ll be showcasing pride in her heritage.
More information on Alyssa London, her platform as well as her social media pages, can be found on her website.
The Miss USA Pageant will air May 14 on FOX.
