Miss England Elizabeth Grant strops at Virgin airlines for not inviting her on to new Manchester to San Francisco line – named after her beauty queen title
When Virgin Airlines launched the new service - dubbed the Man-Fran - just 40 miles from her home last week, Miss Grant thought she would be invited
THE reigning Miss England has thrown a strop after she was overlooked by Virgin Airlines to take part in their opening ceremony for a flight named after her beauty title.
Elizabeth Grant said she had been left in the dark over why the airline had failed to invite her to the launch of the new route from Manchester to San Francisco, despite one of the Airbus A330s being named “Miss England”.
Speaking to the Sun Online, the 20-year-old said she had no idea that plane would share her nationally-recognised title.
She said: “I got a call from my dad and he said ‘are you aware that your name is being used for a plane’, I had no idea at all.
“I just couldn’t believe it.”
The glamorous pageant queen said she had been blindsided by the missing invite.
She said: "My dad sent me a newspaper cutting and people had been asking him why I didn't go to the opening.
"From that moment, it has just been 'oh my God'."
Speaking out about her frustration, she said that the airline had not even checked with the organisation's national director to OK the use of the beauty pageant title.
She said: "It was a bit frustrating - it would have been amazing opportunity for myself with Richard Branson - you just have to say his name and people knows who he is.
"But it's also a snub for the brand itself."
But the airline has now apologised, saying it wasn't their intent to snub Miss England - giving her a model aircraft by way of an apology.
