And patriotic Lopez roared: "I am proud to be British.
"Gibraltar is British and always will be. Why would we ever want to change our flag?"
Lopez became Gibraltar's first-ever Miss World when she was crowned in Johannesburg at the 2009 pageant.
She was speaking to the Mail in the wake of tensions between Spain and Britain over the territory on the southern tip of Iberia.
Spain is believed to be considering using Gibraltar as bargaining chip in Brexit negotiations with the UK.
Yesterday a Spanish navy ship entered Gibraltarian waters but was quickly chased out by a plucky Royal Navy vessel.
Gibraltar’s First Minister Fabian Picardo, speaking after The Sun launched a campaign to keep the Rock British, said: “It’s great to have The Sun onside.”

PM Theresa May quizzed on Gibraltar and Brexit during King Abdullah II meeting in Jordan
He called on the Prime Minister to rule out giving Spain any say in the Rock’s future.
Picardo made his plea after May refused to shut the door on possible bilateral talks over Gibraltar during Brexit negotiations.
He said: “It’s time for the British government to rule out any bilateral veto for Spain and stand by Gibraltar.
“Otherwise Spain will be able to dictate terms to us and that will be totally unfair.”
