Many may claim that this year's Miss SA pageant was a success with Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters being crowned Miss SA 2017, however, reports have surfaced that the competition was rigged.
According to the Sowetan, finalists said that the pageant was rigged in favour of Nel-Peters.
It is reported that Nel-Peters received preferential treatment during the competition and allegedly had personal relationships with two of the judges, former Miss SA winners Melinda Bam and Claudia Henkel, reports TimesLIVE.
Claudia Henkel, spokesperson for Miss SA said, "There was no favouritism. Not from me. Not from any of the judges. We did not share our scores or even discuss any of the contestants and the results were independently audited."
Henkel said that the organisers gave contestants an opportunity to air all their grievances and said that no claims of favouritism were bought up at the time.
"There was an open-door policy that would have protected anyone who wanted to raise any concerns. We had a meeting with all the girls where several issues were discussed, including charity work and exposure, but never was favouritism brought up," she said.
