Miss America Send Off held for Miss Mississippi 2016

VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Miss Mississippi 2016 Laura Lee Lewis will be leaving for the Miss America Pageant in just nine days and she is hoping this is the year Mississippi will have a fifth national winner.
Miss Mississippi's dressing room at the Vicksburg City Auditorium was filled with some of the outfits she will be taking to Atlantic City.
Laura Lee Lewis is enjoying every moment of preparing for the national competition. She does have a favorite for the Miss America stage.
"I'd have to say my talent dress," Lewis explained. "I feel like an Elsa, Cinderella mix. It's so much fun it goes along with the song. It moves and flows."
Miss Mississippi also shared another favorite item at her Miss America Send Off Saturday - a special creation for the Miss America Show Us Your Shoes Parade.
The Parade is set for September 10 and will be led by a special tribute to mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11.
Her shoes were designed to honor Mississippi native Jim Henson.
"Kermit the Frog, who does not love Kermit? If you don't I'm very sorry," Lewis said. "He is the neatest character and he's been around for a really long time and Miss Piggy, she's not far behind Kermit. And so of course she is incorporated in the shoe as well."
Lewis hopes to be the fifth young woman from this state to win the Miss America crown.
Preliminary competition for Miss America begins September 6.
The winner will be crowned September 11 in Atlantic City.
