COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
Valley area residents will have three reasons to cheer during the 2017 Miss America Pageant on Sunday, Sept.11.
Not only will viewers be able to root for Miss Georgia and Miss Alabama in the contest, but also Miss District of Columbia, who is a former Miss Columbus.
Cierra Jackson was crowned Miss District of Columbia 2016 on Sunday, June 19 at the Howard Theatre. On Friday, she stopped by our WTVM Studios to talk about how excited she is to participate in the upcoming national pageant.
Jackson is a Spelman College graduate who studied political science and interned at the White House. Her platform is supporting military families, something that is near and dear to her heart as she says she was a "military brat." Jackson won the title of Miss Columbus 2015.
Although the contest is nearly a month away, fans can vote now for their favorite contestant online. To participate in the "America's Choice" voting click here.
You can watch the Miss America Pageant live on WTVM and ABC Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, at 9 p.m. EST.
