'I promise I'll do my absolute best': Bosnian refugee turned Miss Australia vows to give it her all as she arrives in Las Vegas for Miss Universe competition

  • Monika Radulovic arrived in Australia as a refugee when she was four
  • Her parents had fled a worn-torn Bosnia two years earlier
  • Despite arriving in Australia with nothing, Monika went on to find success
  • She is a successful model and has an Honours Degree in Psychology
  • Monika can speak four languages and is humbled to represent Australia   
Monika Radulovic was just two years old when she and her parents fled war-torn Bosnia with hopes to start a new life, eventually arriving as refugees in Australia when she was four.
More than 20 years later Monika is proud to call the country that offered them a new chance at life home, and represent the land down under on an international stage.
The 25-year-old was crowned Miss Australia 2015 and is currently at Las Vegas' Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino to compete in the Miss Universe competition on December 20.

Monika took to Instagram to share her gratitude at having the opportunity to represent her country.
'I am truly honoured to be given this opportunity and responsibility,' she wrote.
'I promise I'll do my absolute best to make our beautiful Australia proud.'

Monika previously told Daily Mail Australia she was too young to remember the war, but it was something her parents would never forget.
'My parents, though, haven't forgotten a day of their lives there and the months we spent in a refugee camp in Denmark before Australia.
'We came to Australia with nothing.'

'I remember being four years old [and] neither myself nor my parents spoke any English... and my mum was eight months pregnant flying to Australia.

In addition to her Miss Australia crown, Monika is a successful model and university graduate with an Honours Degree in Psychology.
Her modelling career has seen her grace the cover of Women's Fitness magazine, front national campaigns including Novo shoes and walk the runway.
She is fluent in English, Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian.

Monika will compete in a Dame Edna inspired national costume in a bid to take out the coveted Miss Universe crown.
The outlandish gown features a giant cat-eye headpiece, Sydney Opera House inspired capped sleeves and a billowing skirt that represents the Great Barrier Reef.
Contestants will be judged in three categories: evening gown, swimsuit, and a personality interview. 
Last year's Miss Universe was won by Colombia's Paulina Vega.
