Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach and her newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines successor Maxine Medina trended heavily on Twitter during the Binibining Pilipinas 2016 grand coronation night last Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
With over 340,000 tweets about the hashtag #BbPilipinas2016, the pageant quickly became a global trending topic. Even though the coronation literally ended past 1AM Monday morning, numerous netizens flooded Twitter with posts that peaked at 2,500 per minute at 1:26AM.

Among the most liked tweets was this congratulatory message from Pia herself:

But even though Pia had to finally relinquish her Miss Universe Philippines crown, the reigning Miss Universe remained the most tweeted personality of the event.
Hours before Pia would make her final walk and deliver her emotional farewell speech including some words of wisdom for her successor, her boyfriend, U.S. celebrity doctor Mikhail “Doctor Mike” Vashavski, tweeted this message of support which generated over 33,000 likes and over 10,000 retweets.

Realizing he had misspelled Philippines, Doctor Mike immediately corrected it with a tweet that generated over 10,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets.

Among those who were impressed with Pia’s farewell speech was comedian Vice Ganda whose applauding tweet earned over 13,000 likes and over 4,000 retweets.
