Mirella Paz Is The Real Winner In Miss Peru
Mirella Paz, one of the contestants for Miss Peru 2016, is the real winner.
While Valerie Piazza was named Miss Peru 2016, Mirella Paz is already a winner by heart as she confidently conquered beauty pageant standards by joining Miss Peru 2016 despite her being plus-size.
The 19-year old curvaceous model is the first ever to compete for a major beauty queen title in Peru and had clearly made a statement as she advanced to the finals. Mirella Paz Baylon from the Lima region, Peru made it to the final ten for Miss Peru 2016.
Mirellas’s presence also earned the admiration of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach where she serves as one of the judges in the Miss Peru pageant. In an Instagram post, Wurtzbach shared how Mirella is an inspiration and that her presence has made a huge statement globally.

“The inspiration! The one who made a statement! I applaud this girl for fighting for what she wants. That’s what it’s all about. Happy to know that we’ll be seeing Mirella again at the next Miss Peru pageant! Felicedades! Your presence alone on that stage made a huge statement globally. Congratulations.”
In a press conference before the Miss Peru pageant, Pia said Mirella may not be “what society’s standards are of a beauty queen should be.”
“But that’s what the people think. And that’s not reality,” Pia added. “We always talk about that we’re not just beautiful in the outside but also in the inside and that’s what exactly she did,” she said.
Taking a cue on her experience, Pia then shared about what she had to deal with being an overweight when she joined Binibining Pilipinas 2015.
“I won on my third try in Miss Philippines and I was one of the heaviest candidates. I was scrutinized for that but I used it as motivation before going on to Miss Universe,” she said.
Pia’s experience is such an inspiration which we can relate to Mirella’s journey in Miss Peru pageant. It only proves that it was not just all about the looks but also one’s personality.
Pia continued, “And I always say that I’m also a curvaceous woman. And if I was able to make it as Miss Philippines and in Miss Universe not being the skinniest – so if I can do it, so can anybody else.”
