Morgan Abel crowned Miss Indiana USA 2016
Morgan Abel will represent Indiana at next year's Miss USA Pageant. Abel was crowned Miss Indiana USA 2016 following a pageant at The Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, officials announced on the official pageant website.
Abel, 25, entered the state pageant as Miss North Vernon USA. If she wins the national pageant, she will go on to represent the United States in the Miss Universe Pageant. A firm date for next year's Miss USA Pageant has not been announced, but it is ordinarily held during the summer.
Abel us a registered nurse in the mental health unit of Columbus Regional Hospital. She was graduated from Indiana University, where she hopes to earn a master's degree to prepare her to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. She is also interested in entering into partnership with Crisis Hotline to aid people in immediate need of mental health treatment. Abel is also interested in the expansion of HOPE, a suicide prevention program, into local schools.
Her hobbies include racing, snow skiing, knee boarding, exploring and performing on stage as a vocalist. Her activities on behalf of schools and her community include the National Alliance of Mental Illness, Turning Point Domestic Violence Shelter, Red Cross, Hospice, CHAMP Camp and AYS.
Abel was also named Miss Photogenic at Sunday's pageant. Other standouts were First Runner Up Darrian Arch, Second Runner-up Brittany Winchester, Third Runner-up Alexis Irene Ginn and Fourth Runner-up Destiny Dever. Rounding out the top seven contestants were Gracie Lyons and Autumn Cole. Morgan Abel was named Miss Photogenic and Hanna Poitras was voted Miss Amity.
