Miss USA Pageant date announced

The Miss USA Pageant will return toLas Vegas for its 2016 competition,pageant officials announced Friday. The date is set for June 5 atT-Mobile Arena, located at 3780 S. Las Vegas Blvd. in Las Vegas. Ticket information for the event will be announced at a later date. The pageant will be broadcast live on the Fox Network. Contestants and their families will stay at MGM Resorts.
The pageant will feature 51 contestants; one from each state plus the District of Columbia. Contestants won at state pageants affiliated with Miss USA. Judges choose winners based on a combination of points earned in swimsuit, evening gown and interview competitions.
The winner of the Miss USA Pageant will represent the United States at the Miss Universe Pageant later this year. The latest contestant from the United States to reign as Miss Universe was Olivia Culpo, a former Miss Rhode Island USA who was crowned Miss Universe on Dec. 19, 2012.
The reigning Miss USA is Olivia Jordan. The 26-year-old resident of Tulsa was the first Miss Oklahoma USA to be crowned Miss USA. Before embarking on the path that resulted in her crowning as Miss USA, Jordan traveled to Boston University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in health science. She has been active for years in campaigns to encourage more understanding and research of Alzheimer’s disease. She is also an actress who has appeared in several movies, including Hot Tub Time Machine 2.
The reigning Miss USA also helps promote the pageant’s official charities, including Best Buddies, Gilda’s Club, the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance, Smile Train, the USO, Same Sky and Cordaid.
