More than 30 years since the last winner was crowned, WA has a new Miss West Coast.
Caris Tiivel beat 23 other women to claim the title at the pageant final last night at Matisse Beach Club in Scarborough as a cheering crowd watched on.
As the first beauty to accept the title since 1985, 23-year-old Tiivel could not contain her shock or bright smile as her name was announced and the sash was placed on her.
Miss West Coast originated in 1967 and in its heyday was one of the top pageants in the country.
Having previously run the Miss Universe WA preliminary, prominent Perth couple Troy and Sophia Barbagallo revamped the competition in 2016 with an aim to restore it to its former glory.
Hundreds of women applied for the chance to snag this year’s title but it was brunette bombshell Tiivel who impressed the judges most over a series of rounds including swimwear, evening wear and the notorious question and answer section.
The Helena Valley beauty said she never expected to walk away with the coveted crown but she was so proud to be named the first Miss West Coast in over 30 years.
“I’m so over the moon, to come in the top six and then to get Miss West Coast is honestly a dream come true,” Tiivel said.
“I’ve had so much fun with all the girls on this journey and I really can’t wait for what’s next.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the Bali trip to continue to bond with the girls.”
In addition to Tiivel being chosen as the overall Miss West Coast victor, five other women were also selected last night to go on to compete in the Miss Universe Australia national final later this year: Ebony Walton, Rebecca Mountford, Olivia Stanley, Meagan Smith and Olivia Donaldson.
