DOT insists: No talk of cancellation of Miss Universe 2017 in PHL
Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Kat De Castro denied anew the rumors that the Miss Universe pageant scheduled to be held in Manila on January 2017 has been cancelled.
"I have met with them [Miss Universe organization] and partner groups and there has been no talk of cancellation whatsoever" De Castro told GMA News Online in a phone interview on Saturday.
The DOT had earlier discredited social media posts claiming that the Miss Universe organization is eyeing a pull out from the Philippines.
The rumors resurfaced due to an article about the supposed cancellation appeared on another news site on Friday.
Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo in a report by GMA News' Balitanghali previously clarified thatpreparation for the pageant is on track.
"I'd like to assure you that Miss Universe will be here, the contest will be here on January 30," Teo declared.
The candidates are expected to arrive on January 13, weeks ahead of the coronation night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
According to the DOT, the girls will visit different parts of the Philippines in groups. Among the potential places the candidates will visit are Intramuros, Batangas, Palawan, Legazpi, Cebu, and Davao. — VVP, GMA News
