CUMBERLAND — Miss Rhode Island, Theresa Agonia, is headed to the Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas on May 24, but she couldn’t set out on her two-week warmup to the June 5 live competition without a little sendoff by her supporters, family and friends.
The forward-looking gathering at the Lusitania Club, off Broad Street, Friday night had a lot of energy to impart on the 24-year-old pageant contestant, and it showed in Agonia’s big smile.
Not only did she have her family members, including her mom, Fernanda, and sister, Amanda, in the crowd, but also many of her co-workers at Providence City Hall, where she is Mayor Jorge Elorza’s deputy chief of staff, and also folks from her hometown of Central Falls, where she went to school and worked for Mayor James Diossa’s administration following her graduation from Roger Williams University with a degree in media communications.
Both Diossa and Elorza attended the send-off function with members of their staffs.
“I’m excited and I’m very proud of her,” Mayor Elorza said of Agonia.
