Miss Sweden is a big Donald Trump fan
A day after President Obama joked about the idea of Donald Trump talking foreign policy with beauty-pageant winners, former Miss Sweden Camilla Hansson said she wouldn’t mind discussing anything with the New York billionaire — calling him a “larger-than-life character” on Sunday.
“He’s obviously a very successful guy,” she told The Post. “I think he is a likable person when you’re around him because he’s someone who takes over a room.”
Speaking from London, Hansson described what it was like hearing the president poke fun at the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination Saturday at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The comedian in chief scored major laughs at the event when he joked that the billionaire’s foreign-policy experience included only such highlights as meeting with “Miss Sweden, Miss Argentina, Miss Azerbaijan.”
“It brought a smile to my face,” Hansson said. “I thought it was kind of funny, but also a little derogatory obviously. [Obama] was kind of being sarcastic about me and the other women in the competition. It’s sort of important for us. But it was light-hearted. It brought a smile to my face.”
Hansson — who was crowned Miss Sweden in 2014 — says she was drawn to Trump immediately after meeting him at the Miss Universe pageant.
“He is exactly as how you would expect, kind of a larger-than-life character,” she said.
Hansson added that she understood completely why he was the Republican Party’s front-runner, citing his determined personality.
But Hansson admitted she didn’t know if she would vote for him, since she doesn’t follow US politics.
“I haven’t really studied his policies enough to express my views of him as a candidate, but he’s obviously got good leadership skills,” she said.
Meanwhile, Trump offered rare kudos to Obama on Sunday while speaking to “Fox News,” saying he liked his joke routine.
“It’s a comedy. It’s fine,” Trump said. “I thought he did a nice job. It was good.”
But referring to Obama’s joke about how the mogul could close Gitmo because he’s good at running waterfront properties into the ground, Trump said: “I have the best waterfront properties in the world. I don’t know what he’s talking about.”
Obama famously ribbed Trump at the dinner in 2011, mocking his “birther” crusade and more — all while the mogul was in the room.
This time, Trump was not in the audience.
