Former Miss Indiana describes Trump pageant experience
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- It was a story that sounded familiar to Bridget Bobel McIntyre.
Ten years ago, the Miami County native was Miss Indiana USA.
And now she’s the latest former pageant contestant sharing her story about Donald Trump.
After the former Miss Arizona came forward, saying Trump entered her dressing room before the 2001 pageant while some of the contestants were not fully dressed, Bobel reconnected with some of her friends from the 2006 Miss USA pageant.
Did they remember the same thing happening that year? McIntyre texted with her friend, Miss Hawaii 2006.
“I remember Mr. Trump and Melania coming into the dressing room before the competition,” said McIntyre. “I don’t remember being in a state of undress but Miss Hawaii said she (did) remember scrambling for clothes.”
It's behavior Trump himself described in a recently unearthed radio interview with Howard Stern.
"I'll tell you the funniest is that before a show, I'll go backstage and everyone's getting dressed, and everything else, and you know, no men are anywhere, and I'm allowed to go in because I'm the owner of the pageant and therefore I'm inspecting it," Trump said on the Stern show in 2005. "You know, I'm inspecting because I want to make sure that everything is good."
McIntyre also says as part of the experience, the contestants had to attend a party with a group of older men. She described the party as very uncomfortable. While she doesn’t remember Trump being at the party, she said it was orchestrated by the pageant and left many of the contestants very uneasy.
“I was 25 at the time so I was a little bit more grown up and knew how to handle those types of situations being around a lot of men who are ogling you,” she said. “But there were contestants who were 18, 19 years old and they had a lot of unwanted advances from some of them who were there. It was very uncomfortable.”
She remembers speaking with Trump a couple of times, and said he was mostly polite, but also says she felt “like a pawn in a game of chess” because of that uncomfortable party she and the other contestants were taken to.
“He abused his ownership of the organization,” said McIntyre, who acknowledged she’s not supporting Trump for President. “It was very disheartening.”
