The Miss Teen USA pageant, run by the Miss Universe Organization, will replace the bathing suit section with an athletic wear competition. MassLive.com reportsthat organizers want the pageant to be less exploitative and to focus more on physical fitness of its participants, who are ages 15-19. The decision reflects "an important cultural shift we're all celebrating that empowers women who lead active, purposeful lives and encourage those in their communities to do the same," said Paula M. Shugart, president of the organization. The 2016 Miss Teen USA competition will take place at the Venetian Theater in the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 30.
