OSHKOSH — The 80th Miss Wisconsin has been crowned.
Miss Green Bay Area Courtney Pelot took home the title of Miss Wisconsin 2016 at the conclusion of Saturday’s finals at Alberta Kimball Auditorium, adjacent to Oshkosh West High School.
Pelot danced to "Pretty Hurts" for her talent. Her platform is "Open Books, Open Opportunity: Promoting Literacy in Our Communities."
Like her predecessor, Miss Wisconsin 2015 Rosalie Smith, this year marked the first time Pelot had competed in the Miss Wisconsin Scholarship Pageant.
"I can't even explain it; I am so excited," Pelot said. "This is my first year competing at state. I had competed (locally) two years before. (Miss Green Bay Area) is the first local title I've ever won, so I can't believe that I won the state title and am going to Miss America."
Pelot will spend a year of service, supporting her chosen platform and the Children's Miracle Network, as well as promoting science, technology, engineering and math education. She also will get the chance to represent Wisconsin in the Miss America competition, set for Sept. 6 through 11 in Atlantic City.
