Quite a few honors will be doled out in the coming days in Cannes, from the unofficial (best dressed by fashion magazines) to the official (Palme d'Or, anyone?).
Yet another trophy, for a new local beauty pageant, has entered the accolade race in 2016, and this one falls in the former category. While it’s called the Miss Cannes Film Festival, organizers are quick to acknowledge it’s in no way formally associated with the festival.
Twelve contestants, who were selected at a casting call on April 30 at local arts venue the Diamond School, will compete in the beauty pageant, which will be held at the Carlton Hotel on May 17 at 10 p.m. However, not all hail from the area; contestants come from France, the U.K., Russia and the U.S.
The ladies will compete in traditional categories, such as swimsuit and talent, in front of a jury that includes international model Victoria Silvstedt. In addition to a tiara, sash and bragging rights of being the first-ever Miss Cannes, the winner will receive a modeling contract (from an unspecified agency), Detiara jewelry, Addy van den Krommenacker Haute Couture dresses, Vakanza swimwear and Laura de Gianni beauty products.
The roster of organizers includes Dama Branding’s Patricia Constanza, Passarella Moda’s Carolien ter Linden and Events by Fred’s Fred Guillet.
Constanza tells THR that although her partners are starting locally (while filming the event for a planned reality TV project), they hope to franchise the pageant and take it “around the world.”
