Miss New Mexico 1948 finally gets her crown

Betha Young, Miss New Mexico in the 1948 Miss America pageant, apparently never got a crown or sash when she won her state title more than 60 years ago.
But last week, current Miss America Betty Cantrell did the honors, according to a post on the Miss America Facebook page on May 14.
"When she won the title of #MissNewMexico, they didn't have a crown or sash to present her with because of the effects of the depression," the post said.
Young, 90, told an Albuquerque news station she was a 22-year-old student at the University of New Mexico when friends encouraged her to try out for the pageant.
