Backstreet Boys, Chris Young set to perform at Miss USA Pageant
In addition to beautiful women in evening gowns and swimsuits, fans of theMiss USA Pageant will watch two popular musical acts perform during the event, pageant officials announced Thursday. The Backstreet Boys and Chris Young have signed to perform at the pageant, which will be carried live from Las Vegas at 7 p.m./ 6 p.m. CT on the Fox television network.
There are 52 contestants in this year’s competition. They represent one contestant from each state, plus the District of Columbia and a 52nd contestant chosen to participate with help from public polling.
The women are judged on the basis of poise in evening gowns and swimsuits, and on-stage questions. The contestants are in Las Vegas now, visiting make-up artists, participating in photo shoots, getting acquainted, and having some fun time.
The winner of the pageant will represent the United States at the Miss Universe Pageant later this year. Eight Miss USA winners have gone on to be crowned Miss Universe. They are Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo of Rhode Island, Miss Universe 1997 Brook Lee of Hawaii, Miss Universe 1995 Chelsi Smith of Texas, Miss Universe 1980 Shawn Weatherly of South Carolina, Miss Universe 1967 Sylvia Hitchcock of Alabama, Miss Universe 1960 Linda Bement of Utah, Miss Universe 1956 Carol Morris of Iowa and Miss Universe 1954 Miriam Stevenson of South Carolina.
Reigning Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan was second runner-up at last year’s Miss Universe Pageant. She is a former Miss World America who finished in the top 20 at the Miss World 2013 Pageant. Jordan has gained high marks during her reign as Miss USA for her poise and articulate campaigning on behalf of such health issues as cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
