Miss World to jet in tomorrow, set to reward former Miss World Kenya Idah Nguma with Sh10 million

Mireia Lalaguna lands in Nairobi on Monday for a four-day visit to Kenya that will also see her reward former Miss World Kenya Idah Nguma with Sh10 million
The long wait is almost over; come Monday, Mireia Lalaguna, the reigning Miss World will be here.
Her itinerary entails visiting patients who have been treated for cleft lip and palate under the Beauty with a Purpose banner. She will also be rewarding Miss World Kenya 2014, Idah Nguma, with Sh10million for winning in the Beauty with a Purpose category of the pageant.
This visit comes after her previous plans to come to Nairobi in 2015 were stalled by insecurity concerns following the terrorist attack at Garissa University.
According to information revealed to Pulse, the beauty queen and her entourage will be accorded first class treatment, such as that which is usually accorded to diplomats and delegates.
At the airport, she will be welcomed and ushered by the Miss World Kenya team and a group of entertainers. Under heavy security, her motorcade will snake its way to her hotel, which has been kept top secret. However, it is most likely that she will be staying at Nairobi Serena where a special dinner ceremony will be hosted for her on Tuesday evening.
According to our sources, there is a possibility that she will have an official invite to State House where she is expected to pay a courtesy call on the president.
She will also receive special gifts that will be presented to her by the Miss World Kenya team.
While making the announcement of her arrival, Miss World Kenya franchise holder, Terry Mungai, noted that they have partnered with Smile Train International to restore smiles on patients with cleft lip and palate. The organisation offers free treatment for the patients, in partnership with local hospitals.
"Cleft lip and palate has stigmatised innocent children and parents, and as Miss World Kenya, we shall continue rallying people to access treatment. The former beauty queen Idah Nguma's efforts did Kenya proud in the 2014 Beauty with a Purpose category, and it is for this purpose that Miss World 2015 will visit Kenya beside touring our lovely country," noted Terry.
Reigning Miss World Kenya Roshanara Ebrahim committed to carrying on the mantle of Smile Train by sensitising more families to take up the treatment.
"It is sad that infants continue to die, yet treatment is free, simply because they do not know it exists. We shall continue to support Smile Train and I am happy to be on board," said Roshanara.
Former Miss World Kenya Idah Nguma told Pulse that she is delighted about queen Mireia Lalaguna's visit to Kenya.
Idah, who finished among the top ten during the Miss World international contest two years ago, has since been waiting to receive the Sh10 million she was awarded for winning in the Beauty with a Purpose category of the pageant during the finals in China.
"It is a big delight to host the reigning queen," Idah said.
It is not the first time a reigning Miss World crown holder is visiting the country.
In July 2011, Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills visited Nairobi on a four-day trip. She was accompanied by Julia Morley, the CEO and founder of Miss World. Back then, her major charity activity involved a visit to Mathira, Nyeri in an anti-jigger campaign after which she formally presented the Beauty with a Purpose Award to Natasha Metto, the then reigning Miss World Kenya.
Miss World Pageant is an international beauty competition. The beauty queens are selected from their countries and qualify through local and regional heats, culminating in the national final. Once they win the national title, preparations for Miss World begin. Miss World has to score the highest points, awarded for a range of activities and events which take place from the moment the contestants arrive at the competition. Five challenge events take place in the run up to the final; Beauty with a Purpose, Multimedia, Sports, Talent, and Top Model. These offer the chance for the contestants to shine, giving them the opportunity to win important points.
Since 2014, the Miss World franchise has leveraged the county beauty queens to drive the messaging of free treatment for the deformity. The centres that offer treatment include Gertrudes Childrens Hospital, Metropolitan Hospitals, Nairobi South Hospital, Bomu Hospital in Mombasa and Nyeri County Referral Hospital.
Others are Embu County Referral Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referrah Hospital, AIC CURE International Hospital, IcFEM Dreamland Hospital in Kimilili, Jordan Hospital in Kitui, Help a Child Face Tomorrow, AIC Kapsowar Hospital, Evans Sunrise Medical Centre in Nakuru and Bethany Kids at Kijabe Hospital. http://www.sde.co.ke/pulse/article/2000203404/miss-world-to-jet-in-tomorrow-set-to-reward-former-miss-world-kenya-idah-nguma-with-sh10-million
