PRESS RELEASE - Miss British Virgin Islands Adorya Rocio Baly has kicked started final preparation for the Annual International Miss Universe Pageant which is less than a month away.
The late announcement of the world renowned and highly publicized pageant left Baly with little time to prepare, but she says with the support of her home circle, the Miss BVI Committee and the BVI community, she is ready to take to the international stage.
Adorya will leave the territory on Tuesday, December 1 and will head to Las Vegas, Nevada – the host country of the 64th annual Miss Universe Pageant.
The pageant will be broadcast live on December 20 on Fox Television at 8 p.m.
Chairman of the Miss BVI Committee, Alesia Hamm says it is a tradition for the British Virgin Islands to participate in the Miss Universe Pageant.
She says the road to Miss Universe is paved with endless opportunities, adding that millions will be watching as Adorya competes against like-minded, ambitious young women from around the world for this coveted title in several categories including swimwear, costume, evening wear and the interview segment.
The 22 year old ambassador, who currently works in the Behavioral Health Unit at Peebles Hospital, has an Associate’s degree in Humanities, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

She says she hopes to bring a message of hope to the pageant.
“My interest is in the behavior of people; especially young people.  My ultimate goal is to obtain my Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology where I will be required to assist with the psychological assessment of individuals who are involved, in one way or another, with the legal system.”
“However, for the purpose of the pageant and throughout the rest of my reign, I plan to bring awareness to the area of Mental Health.  Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.  It affects how we think, feel, and act.  It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices, she expounded.”
She added: “I am excited about this opportunity to showcase the British Virgin Islands as well as to spread awareness about issues concerning mental health.  I am confident that I will do well, and my aim is to learn as much as I can while having fun, exploring a new place, and meeting new people.”
Adorya recently wrapped up her official photo shoot for the pageant and will spend the next few days finalizing preparations.
In the meantime, a small contingent of some 15 persons is expected to travel to Las Vegas to attend the pageant.
However, everyone is encouraged to tune in to the pageant to lend our collective support.
Interested persons can visit the official Miss Universe website for more information and follow Adorya on the 2015/16 Miss British Virgin Islands’ Facebook page for updates.
