Samantha Bee Digs Into Donald Trump’s Battle With Miss Universe Winner

The 'Full Frontal' host broke down the debate and its aftermath in a special Wednesday episode

“Full Frontal” didn’t run in its usual Monday night slot, so it gave host Samantha Beeand her writing staff time to chew over what went down in Monday night’s presidential debate for a special Wednesday show.
In one segment, she explored the narrative of the debate, from Lester Holt’s moderating responsibilities to the expectations placed on both candidates, Donald Trump andHillary Clinton. But Bee really dug in once she got to the part of the debate when Clinton baited Trump with a reference to former a Miss Universe, Venezuela-born Alicia Machado, whom the former pageant owner had allegedly called “Miss Housekeeping” and “Miss Piggy.” (Machado is now campaigning for Clinton and has appeared in an ad for the Democratic presidential nominee.)
Bee then played a clip of Trump criticizing Machado from Tuesday morning’s “Fox and Friends.” “She was the winner and you know she gained a massive amount of weight and it was a real problem. We had a real problem. Not only that, her attitude,” Trump said on the Fox News program.
Now you have a real problem,” Bee said after the clip played, “not only with her, but with any woman who’s ever been called fat — which is all of us.”
But, for Bee, Clinton wasn’t the only woman to land harsh rhetorical blows on debate night. She then played a clip of Trump talking to Fox News pundit Sean Hannity after the debate, over which anchor Megyn Kellyonce a Trump target herself, said: “We’ve got Trump speaking to our own Sean Hannity. We’ll see whether he speaks to the journalists in this room after that interview.”
Afterward, Bee joked: “Dear Diary, Today I saw Megyn Kelly use her mean girl superpower for good. I think I’m in love.”
